CLOTHES PROJECT

If you have landed on this page, maybe you knew Ibrahim baba, or maybe you are holding in your hands an article of clothing with a label that directed you here.

You can read more about the man on other pages of this site, but this page is about the clothes.

Ibrahim baba had style. Bodies mattered to him, beauty mattered to him. He managed to be both distinguished and playful. Mismatched socks and dramatic scarves. Intersectional and multi-colored.

What to do with his clothing, collected with love over many years from many places in the world, once the body was no longer there to be adorned?

We wanted to honor his memory and love for both clothing and the many places in which he collected the many beautiful lungis (sarongs), shawls, t-shirts, salwars and other items of clothing by creating this page and a plan.

His clothes have been given away to friends in many places, and now one or more items have made their way to you.

We invite you to upload a picture of the item and let us know where you are in the world. You don’t have to show your face or tell us your name, if you don’t want to, just let us know your location and show us how you’ve used the clothes you found or received. Click here to see the gallery.

Thanks and hope you enjoy the clothes as much as Ibrahim baba did.
